| Our unique combination of traditional photographic skills,
mixed with innovative methods of mounting and producing exhibitions
have seen Spectrum suddenly at the forefront of large format
fine art printing in the UK.
Our strength lies in the size of our company, which is small
enough to develop custom-made products for specific customers
on a one to one basis, but big enough to manage and produce
almost everything in-house. |

Hiroji
Kubota at More London
This year’s highlight was a project to produce huge
images for Magnum to be used in an outdoor exhibition for
a senior member - Hiroji Kubota. The Magnum project was an
opportunity to work in a totally new environment as one section
of a larger team dedicated to make the project a success.
The idea was to make an exhibition for the area outside the
GLA building on the Southbank, to be designed by Standard
8. |
|
 |
| We love the opportunity to work on new and
interesting projects and Hiroji proved to be a fascinating
client, having nearly fifty years experience of making photographic
exhibitions.
All the images were shot on 35mm film, so everything was drum
scanned to create the highest quality digital files possible.
Each image was produced as a small work print for Hiroji to
study and comment upon. After all the retouching and adjustments
had been made we started to make the prints, six of which
were 3.6m. We produced full-image tests of different acrylic
seals to decide upon the most suitable and finally all the
prints were mounted to dibond and delivered to the site to
be assembled into the exhibition panels.
The opening was attended by luminaries from Magnum, canon
and the City of London and despite the rain; we felt the project
was an outstanding success, a great tribute to the ambitions
and vision of Hiroji Kubota and a triumph of teamwork.

Reuters
Headquarters, Canary Wharf
In 2005, Spectrum were approached by Pringle Brandon, the
Architects responsible for designing the re-fit of the Transport
building in Canary Wharf into headquarters for Reuters, the
British global information company.
|
|
 |
| Reuters wanted to use their vast picture library
to produce a vast exhibition, spanning ten floors and incorporating
news, fashion, entertainment, travel and sport. Staff on each
floor chose their favourite images and these were sent as
digital files to Spectrum in batches.
To keep track of more than five hundred works, Spectrum jointly
project managed the production with Reuters using a system
of duplicate labels, one for the back of the picture and a
second to be used in keeping tally of what had been printed.__In
addition to the aluminium mounted pieces, Spectrum developed
a custom-designed wall piece constructed from 25mm diamond
polished Perspex, to be placed in each of the client meeting
rooms, called “60-minute pieces”.
Working closely with Reuters designers, we were able to deliver
and install all the works on time and within budget. In December
2005 the Queen visited the building and inspected, amongst
other things, our handiwork!
